The classroom workshop is comprised of discussions, video presentations, case studies, and interactive activities. The classroom workshop will provide participants with information on various disabilities, awareness and precautions associated with those disabilities, as well as instructional strategies and effective parent communication. Participants in the Special Abilities workshop will learn about some of the most common disabilities experienced in the aquatics industry, including Autism Spectrum Disorder. The interactive activities throughout the course will allow participants to learn from each other and gain a broader perspective on teaching individuals with special abilities. The Special Abilities Course is designed to provide a wide array of information so that participants have a solid foundation on which they can develop a special abilities program for their swim school or further develop their own individual teaching skills. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the end of the course.

***The Special Abilities online course must be taken prior to attending this workshop. Once registered for the workshop the Special Abilities Online Course will be assigned to your user account.
****To get your certificate you need to complete the online pre-req course; we expect all participants to be on camera during the virtual course but if unable to be on camera during any portion they need to reach out to the USSSA office prior for approval; attention should be focused on course presenter and materials – not on other tasks; attendees should be engage and participate in all breakout sessions; attendees should be prepared for roll call at the start and a various points throughout the workshop to confirm engagement. If it’s determined that attendees were not engaged for 1 and a half hours or more, USSSA reserves the right to not issue a certificate. (that’s about 25% of the time)
